The Case for Renting a Car: Freedom and Flexibility

For guests at Casa Venado, a rental car isn't just a convenience; it's the key to unlocking the full potential of our region. Our home is intentionally set away from the tourist bustle of La Fortuna, nestled in the quiet hills of Venado. This peaceful setting is the main draw, but it also means you're not within walking distance of restaurants or attractions.

It's maintained and completely navigable with a standard car, but many guests prefer the comfort and higher clearance of an SUV. Shuttles are also a great choice if you absolutely do not want to drive. If your plan is to take a shuttle to Casa Venado and then rely on tour operators with included transportation for all your activities, that can work. Just be sure to confirm that their pickups extend to the Venado area, as some only service hotels in the immediate La Fortuna vicinity.

Here's how it works: you book a private shuttle to bring your family from the airport (SJO or LIR) directly to Casa Venado. You can settle in, relax, and not worry about a thing. For the next day or two, you can enjoy the peace of the house, walk the local lanes, and maybe arrange a horseback ride with a nearby family farm.

Then, for the remainder of your stay, you can have a rental car delivered to the house from one of the agencies in La Fortuna. This gives you the freedom to explore Arenal, Río Celeste, and the hot springs for the rest of your trip. On your departure day, you can either drive back to the airport yourself or drop the car in La Fortuna and take another shuttle. It’s a fantastic way to ease into your vacation.
